Getting started
Installation
Bastion Terminal 1.1.0 is a local-first desktop app. Public installers are for Linux and Windows.
Download
Install Linux or Windows 1.1.0 from the download page. macOS is not in this release.
First connection
- Open Bastion Terminal.
- Click Add host in the sidebar.
- Enter a name, hostname, port, and username.
- Pick an auth method. Password and private key work in 1.1.0. SSH agent authentication is not enabled.
- Click Connect. The host key prompt appears the first time. Accept it once and Bastion stores the fingerprint.
Tip: For a smooth first run, generate an ED25519 key inside the app and import it into the target server's ~/.ssh/authorized_keys before you connect.
Build from source
A public source repository is not published. The commands below are how the desktop tree is built once you already have the source. They require Node.js 20+, Rust stable, and the Tauri v2 system dependencies for your OS.
npm install
npm run tauri:build Outputs land in src-tauri/target/release/bundle/. The public Linux and Windows files are on the download page.
Development commands
npm run dev # Vite dev server (browser preview)
npm run tauri:dev # desktop app
npm run typecheck # tsc --noEmit
